Once the vehicle arrives in Ireland you will need to make sure you have the following documents : Vehicle Registration Certificate / Export Certificate Current drivers licence Invoice relating to the purchase of the vehicle Sailing ticket or other relevant documents Next step is to contact the Revenue Vehicle Registration Office ( VRO ) who will arrange to inspect your vehicle and have you fill out a VRT4 form. They will then calculate the amount of Vehicle Registration tax (VRT) you need to pay which must be done within 1 day of the vehicle entering Ireland .
Once the VRT has been paid you will be given a receipt for the VRT payment showing the registration assigned to your vehicle you must then display your new registration number within 3 days an RF100 form must then be completed to apply for your Irish road tax so that you can legally drive on Irish roads. Once this is completed you will receive your new Irish registration certificate. Please NoteIf your vehicle is over 4 years old you will need to carry out a NCT (National Car Testing) this should be carried out as soon as your VRT reciept is received. rental agreement for a year and hold a Spanish driving license. After 6 months you are considered a resident which
requires you to pay import tax and re-register your vehicle.
If you are married, you and your spouse will only be able to import one car between you on these terms. C ustoms duty will become payable on the value of the vehicle as assessed by the Customs Department, at the time it is transferred to a non-entitled person. A first registration fee is payable according to the vehicle's horsepower. No Customs duties are levied on one taxable private vehicle imported by the immigrant at transfer of the normal place of residence. Provided that The immigrant has stayed abroad continuously for at least one year immediately before moving to Malta . The vehicle has been in the ownership, of the immigrant or his spouse and in the immigrant's use abroad for at least six months immediately before his moving to Malta . * If the immigrant has earlier brought in a vehicle free of tax, it is required that the time limit within which that vehicle may not be transferred without payment of tax or reduced tax has expired before his moving to Malta. The immigrant must provide documents proving that the conditions for exemption from, or reduction of, tax are met. The stay abroad can normally be proved with a certificate given by the employer or the population registration authorities of the foreign country concerned or, in some cases, with entries in the passport. However taxes at the ADT (Vehicle Licensing & Testing Department) are to be settled. The ownership and possession of a vehicle usually appears on the commercial invoice or other transfer document or from the registration documents. The use of the vehicle must be proved by presenting, inter alia, the traffic insurance certificate. On request, the immigrant must also produce other documents to prove eligibility for exemption from tax or tax reduction. A vehicle which has been granted exemption from, or reduction of, tax at importation may not be sold, hired out or otherwise transferred, or be used, whether for consideration or free of charge, by persons other than members of the immigrant's family before the vehicle has been in the ownership, or in the possession leading to ownership, of the immigrant or his spouse and in the use of the immigrant for in all three years, of which time, however, for at least one year in Malta. In addition, it must be noted that the waiting period passes after the transfer of the normal place of residence only when the vehicle is used in Malta . For example, if the vehicle is removed from the register or if the immigrant stays abroad for a longer period than a normal holiday trip, this will stop the passing of the waiting period. France The re-registration of cars in France is quite straight forward. There are no import duties payable and if the car is less than 4 years old, if a UK registration V5, Certificate of Conformity, proof of residence and vaild insurance certificate is provided to your Prefecture, the procedure can be completed the same day. For vehicles over 4 years old the car will need a French CT , which is the equivalent of a MOT but it lasts for 2 years. The French have very definite rules concerning the import of a car from outside the country. You can take a car into the country provided you stick to their rules. Rules vary for a temporary import. The French have strict standards about safety and environment. You have to look out for all the rules and think of compliance even before you decide about shipment of the car. Import tax is imposed on privately owned vehicles and motor homes, whether used or new and depending on the country of origin. Usually it is 10%. There is a value added tax too of 19.6 % of the price of the car imposed by the customs. If the car is being taken in through another member country of the European Union, the customs import tax will be waived because it is the same in that other country too. Only VAT will be imposed by the French Internal Revenue Service, not the Customs. The price invoice of the new vehicle or a seller's certificate indicating the price in a second-hand vehicle is a necessity. Deductions may be made by the officials considering depreciation value. Documents necessary at French Customs * The registration of the vehicle obtained at country of origin * An invoice when applicable. * A T1 declaration if the vehicle has come through another European member country * A movement certificate EUR.1 if the original country of manufacture has a trade agreement with France . You then get a copy of the import declaration which allows you to take the vehicle into France . A receipt for the taxes that you paid (Import and Value added taxes) will be given to you. Your entry will be vouched for further by the Customs Entry certificate No. 846 A. French Customs Rules for driving in France Registration of your vehicle in France is a must. It is known as immatriculation. Applications are made to the local Prefecture after your entry. When you receive your car from the port of delivery, you are strictly instructed to complete your registration within four months and also to secure a French domestic license plate. The license, vehicle registration document (V5) and certificate of motor insurance will have to be carried by you always. You may have to carry your passport if your photo is not on the license. Fines are imposed on the spot. Your claiming that these vital documents are at home may not see you through. Ensure that you get a receipt for the fine. Vehicles drive on the left side. The metric system is used so your distance will be in kilometers and speed in kilometers per hour. Registration For the registration, you have to produce a certificate of Intra-Community Acquisition from the local tax collector (because you have paid Value Added Tax) and the Customs Entry Certificate No 846 A. The French Safety and Environment Standards Your vehicle has to conform to the French Safety and Environment Standards. Normally you would be informed prior to shipping on the required standards. The vehicles manufactured elsewhere do not conform to French requirements. They have to be modified, sometimes involving a large expenditure. If this has not been complied with, the vehicle may have to be exported. Within the grace period of four months, the vehicle must be registered and conform to the French standards or it goes out along with the imposition of severe penalties. Temporary Importing Tourists can import their car temporarily. They can use their own license, registration and insurance. They can drive their own vehicle if over 18 and the vehicle need not conform to the French standards. French residents cannot use them. The car cannot be sold or rented or disposed of otherwise in France . They can stay anywhere in the European Union countries for six months altogether, including the stay in France . When this period is over, the car must be exported. Repairs on the vehicle in France will invite the VAT. Special clearance is provided to students, trainees and temporary employees in France with the conditions allowable for temporary importing but for one year from entry. |
